Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a grinding apparatus for processing a workpiece, including a support arrangement for a number of grinding heads, each of which includes a grinding element and a grinding motor that drives an associated grinding element.
In industrial grinding or polishing of objects that include edges, roundings and surfaces, for example table tops, different types of grinding devices are used which can grind the entire object in one round through the grinding device. In order to achieve a neat surface, it is important that the sanding devices do not leave any distinct marks from the sanding or polishing direction.
There are, for example, sanding devices with a number of rolls, either with surrounding sandpaper or with a number of sanding elements arranged in the longitudinal direction of the roll.
In order to avoid that the grinding directions of the rollers are the same, the grinding apparatus is designed either with rollers that typically rotate opposite to each other, or rollers that are set at different angles in relation to the surface.
The disadvantage of these types of rollers is that they consume a large amount of sandpaper, whereby the sandpaper must often be replaced. This causes production to stop and increases grinding costs.
Furthermore, the sanding devices will not wear evenly along the roll, especially if objects with different dimensions are to be sanded. Typically, the sandpaper will be most worn at the middle part of the roll.
IWO 99/22905 and EP 0 471 641 another type of grinding apparatus is described where a number of rotating rollers are arranged around a vertical shaft connected to a drive unit, so that the rollers, in addition to rotating about their own axis, rotate in the horizontal plane about the vertical axis.
When rotating the shaft about two axes, an attempt has been made to avoid distinct grinding marks. IWO 99/22905, the rollers rotate in mutually different directions at different speeds.
The disadvantage of this is that the rotating rollers with the opposite direction of rotation in the horizontal plane will have a greater grinding effect than the rollers whose direction of rotation is in the same direction as the rotation in the horizontal plane.
In EP 0 471 641, a number of grinding arrangements are used where each grinding arrangement consists of a number of rotating rollers which rotate about a vertical axis. To ensure grinding of the entire object, these grinding arrangements are arranged with overlap, which results in uneven grinding, since there are areas of the object that are ground more than once.
The disadvantage of both of these above-mentioned grinding devices is that, in order to grind wide objects, they must have long rollers, which means that the motor units for these rollers become correspondingly larger. This results in a greater capital cost for the grinding devices and a greater energy consumption.
I US 2002/0068515 er det beskrevet et In US 2002/0068515 it is described et
overflatebehandlingsapparat, hvor enten en stang med en slipetrommel og/eller en stang med et antall sirkulære slipebørster blir brukt for overflatebehandling av et fortrinnsvis flat gjenstand, og hvor slipebørstene er vist anordnet i to rader, innbyrdes forskjøvet slik at slipearealet til den andre raden med slipebørster så vidt overlapper slipearealet til den første raden med slipebørster. surface treatment apparatus, where either a bar with a sanding drum and/or a bar with a number of circular sanding brushes is used for surface treatment of a preferably flat object, and where the sanding brushes are shown arranged in two rows, mutually offset so that the sanding area of the second row of sanding brushes just barely overlaps the sanding area of the first row of sanding brushes.
This construction of a surface treatment apparatus results in uneven surface treatment, since the grinding areas of the two rows of grinding brushes overlap each other, whereby only grinding of the surface of the object takes place.
This means that the device will not ensure effective grinding/deburring of the edges and roundings of an object, since for example a stationary sanding drum will only sand the surface and forward-facing edges/roundings, and a bar with an overlapping sanding area for the sanding brushes only ensures a sanding of larger portions of the surface once.
The purpose of the invention is to suggest a grinding device which is simple in construction, and which, by means of a number of movable grinding elements, can evenly cross-grind an object or a workpiece with edges, roundings and burrs, while the consumption of sandpaper is minimal.
This is achieved by means of a grinding apparatus as set forth in the introductory part of claim 1, and where the support arrangement includes an endless transport device for the grinding heads, which transport device is moved in an annular path with at least one long side at right angles to an underlying conveyor, by at least one motion motor to form an epicyclic movement of the grinding elements over the workpiece during the operation.
To grind an object in one pass through the grinding apparatus, where it is designed with a number of grinding elements which are driven by the grinding motors and which constitute a number of grinding heads.
These grinding heads are connected by a support arrangement which holds the grinding heads at the desired position relative to the surface of the object.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, these grinding elements are circular grinding wheels connected to grinding motors so that they are located in the horizontal plane and preferably parallel to the surface of the workpiece to be ground.
In order to grind the entire object in one pass, the support arrangement includes a transport device for the grinding heads, which transport device is driven by the movement motors.
This means that the individual grinding elements, in addition to being able to rotate about their own vertical axis, can move horizontally across the workpiece in a direction at right angles to the vertical axis of the grinding elements. This will ensure that the entire workpiece is ground in one pass through the grinding apparatus, since the grinding elements perform an epicyclic movement over the workpiece.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the transport device is an endless path which requires that the grinding heads are moved in an annular path around from one side to the opposite side and back again to the first side, so that the object is surface treated by two rows of grinding elements in a passage through the device.
In this way, a very even grinding of the object is achieved, since the second row of grinding heads will typically grind in the opposite direction, thereby even removing possible unevennesses arising from the grinding performed with the first row of grinding heads, whereby an edge to an object will typically be sanded by at least two sanding heads.
In one embodiment of the invention, the grinding elements are connected to the grinding motors with a fixed shaft, whereby objects of uniform thickness can be sanded/polished on the upper side, since the sandpaper on all the grinding elements is parallel to the surface.
In another embodiment of the invention, the grinding elements are connected to the grinding motors with a movable shaft, for example a universal shaft with a ball joint/ball joint, whereby workpieces/objects of uneven thickness can be ground on the upper side, since the sandpaper can now follow the contour of the surface of the object.
In order to improve the grinding and avoid uneven grinding of the object, each grinding head includes a grinding element with an associated grinding motor, whereby it is possible to have different directions of rotation for each individual grinding element.
For eksempel: For example:
- every other grinding head can have the same direction of rotation of the grinding element, while intermediate grinding heads have the opposite direction of rotation, or - every third grinding head can have the same direction of rotation of the grinding element, while intermediate grinding heads have the opposite direction of rotation.
The different directions of rotation of subsequent grinding elements means that the grinding device can be advantageously used for deburring and grinding edges and roundings. The lateral movement of the grinding heads also means that an epicyclic movement occurs over the workpiece, which results in a more efficient grinding of edges and roundings on the object.
The lateral movement of the grinding heads can be regulated with the speed with which the object is moved through the grinding apparatus, so that the grinding heads are moved at least so quickly that the object is exposed to at least two grinding actions, and that there are no areas that are not ground.
In order to move the grinding heads across the feed direction of the object, the transport device consists of a number of drive chains or belts which are adapted for engagement with a drive wheel driven by motion motors.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, four of these drive wheels are arranged rectangularly in the support frame, so that grinding heads connected to the transport device are first moved across the object and then back across the object.
If the transport device is a drive chain, the drive wheels will be sprockets that engage the drive chain and thereby drive the transport device with the grinding heads.
If the transport device is a drive belt in the form of a V-belt, the drive wheels will either be smooth drive wheels which, with the help of the resistance between the V-belt and the drive wheel, will drive the transport device with the grinding heads around, or be a gear wheel that engages both sides of the V-belt.
Alternatively, the transport device can be wires or wide belts or the like where the drive wheel is respectively a narrow drive wheel or a roller.
I stedet for å ha drivhjulene satt opp rektangulært i støtterammen, kan drivhjulene tenkes å være satt opp i andre polygontale arrangementer, som for eksempel: Instead of having the drive wheels set up rectangularly in the support frame, the drive wheels can be thought of as being set up in other polygonal arrangements, such as for example:
- tre drivhjul anordnet i en trekant, eller - three driving wheels arranged in a triangle, or
- fem drivhjul anordnet som et pentagon. - five drive wheels arranged as a pentagon.
Alternatively, only two drive wheels can be used around which the transport device runs, so that the two rows of grinding heads are placed immediately after each other. This requires that the grinding elements do not have a diameter that is too large, since the grinding heads cannot pass each other across the object.
It will be advantageous if the two rows of grinding heads move across the object at a certain distance, since there will be time and space for the ground material from the first row of grinding heads to be removed from the object and thereby not prevent the second row with grinding heads perform optimal grinding.
Instead of having drive wheels connected to a motion motor at each corner of the support frame, some of these drive wheels may be intermediate wheels provided only to guide the transport device.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the transport device is a wide toothed belt that runs over two large sprockets which are arranged with a sprocket on each side of the grinding apparatus. The grinding heads are placed on the toothed belt.
Since the grinding apparatus is to be used with objects of different thicknesses or for objects of varying thickness, it includes an apparatus frame in which the support arrangement is adjustable in height, arranged by means of a number of displaceable power suppliers.
Since the support frame with the grinding heads has a considerable weight, a number of displaceable power suppliers are provided for raising/lowering the support frame in the apparatus frame.
This means that the support frame can be set at a fixed level in the device frame, whereby the grinding elements can be arranged so that they grind a precise thickness of the object.
The displaceable power supplies may be cylinders, rack and pinion arrangements, mechanical rocker arrangements, rotary arrangements or the like, which may be hydraulically, pneumatically or electrically driven.
The fact that the support frame can adjust in height makes it easy to bring the support frame up to a level where it is easily accessible for replacing the grinding elements.
Slipeelementene kan utgjøres av: The grinding elements can consist of:
- grinding wheels mounted on a grinding wheel, for example by means of Velcro surfaces, or - grinding wheels formed with a stud connected to the shaft of the grinding motors, for example with a screw sleeve.
In these ways, the grinding elements can be easily replaced so that there is no need for long production interruptions when the grinding elements have to be replaced.
Furthermore, the sanding heads can have sanding elements with different bodies, such as sandpaper, sanding brushes, wire brushes, polishing cloths or brushes.
A grinding apparatus according to the present invention can be used in the wood industry, but can also be used in other industries where there are surfaces to be sanded, for example in the automotive industry where sheet metal parts for vehicles are to be sanded.

To keep the grinding heads 6 in a vertical position so that the grinding elements 2 are parallel to the surface of the object (not shown), the apparatus frame 7 is provided with a wire/belt 13 which prevents the grinding heads 6 from bending sideways.
The support frame 4 is connected to the apparatus frame 7 via the drive wheels 11/intermediate wheels 10 and the frame part 15, and are adjustable in height by means of cylinders 12. Fig. 5 shows a grinding head 6 including a grinding element 2 which is drivably connected to a grinding motor 3 and suspended in a plate element 21 which forms the connection between the grinding head 6 and the support frame (not shown). Fig. 6 shows an alternative support frame 4 on which a number of grinding heads 6 are arranged on a continuous transport device 9, here shown as a wide toothed belt. The continuous transport device 9 is drivably connected to a movement motor 5 so that the grinding heads 6 can be moved around on the support frame 4, at the same time that the grinding elements 2 are rotated with the help of the grinding motors 3, whereby an epicyclic movement of the individual grinding elements 2 is obtained. Fig. 7 shows a setup with two grinding devices 22, 23 in device frame 7, where a first grinding device 22 is arranged so that the grinding elements 2 are in contact with a surface of an object 20 which is moved over a roller table 24. A second grinding device 23 is arranged so that in the device frame that the grinding elements 2 are in contact with an underside of the object 20 while it is being moved from the roller table 24 to the roller table 25. Both grinding devices 22, 23 are thereby arranged to be adjustable in height in the device frame 7 by means of cylinders 12. In the arrangement shown in figure 7, it is possible to treat the surface of an object 20 on both sides in one go.
