Abstract
Description
Werkwijze voor het verwijderen van sedimentafzettingen.Method of removing sediment deposits.
The invention relates to a method for removing sediment deposits, such as silt, mud or fine sand, from the bodea of a wetland, in which the cohesion of the sediment is broken over a certain depth such that it can be moved or pasted .
It has long been known to clean up taffeta deposits in a river by mechanically disrupting the sedin deposit. As early as 1435, plows were used that had just pulled sailing ships through the unwanted sedin sediment from the river. The sediment deposited by the teams was then carried away by the straw. It has also been known for a long time, for example, from the United States Patent Specification 260,200 of 1882 to remove the sediment deposit with a water jet which is directed at the sediment deposit and in which the released sediment is then left to flow again.
In the 19th century, the bucket dredger appeared, so that the sediment was collected portion-wise, deposited in bins and removed. This bucket dredger can be used in ports and canals. This offers the advantage that the dredged sediment is discharged by means of the bins into which it is dumped, but has the drawback of a rather low efficiency. Even later, the hopper dredger appears, which sucks up a mixture of sediment and water with the help of a squeegee and suction pipe and drops it into the gelding (hopper). When the hopper is filled, it sails away and unloads its contents where possible, for example offshore. These hopper dredgers are large vessels that cannot be used in small wetlands. However, there are very many small wetlands such as small harbors, ponds and inlets that have to deal with the problem of silting up. This often concerns areas that are not accessible to the large hopper dredger and for which it is too expensive. In practice, people today are practically dependent on the bucket dredger or on the application of a fairly recent development known as water injection dredging according to European patents 119,653 and 243 * 994. In this so-called injection dredging, the deposit is rendered liquefied by means of water jets carefully injected therein from a tube lowered on the deposit which is pulled across the sediment layer transversely of its longitudinal direction.
It is thereby possible to efficiently rid those water areas, in particular the areas with still or almost still water, of a deposited layer of sludge or the like water. like fine sand.
Although with the aid of this injection dredging an efficient solution has been obtained for a large variation in water areas, from which deposits must be removed, there is still a need for an even simpler device and the invention therefore aims to provide such a simple device.
This object is achieved in accordance with the invention in that a projection rotatable about a horizontal axis is lowered onto the top surface of the sediment and is rolled in a direction transverse to the said horizontal axis over this top surface of the sediment such that the projections in the sediment and toss it loose. The device can be a simple boat with a simple drive of relatively low power. This device now carries an arm or ladder which can be moved up and down via a simple hoist, at the end of which a projected body can be mounted rotatably, possibly through the use of a pivoting arm, in order to force the body onto the deposit to be processed by its own weight let it go. In the simplest embodiment, this protruded body or roll is lowered until this body rests on the sludge layer and penetrates with the protrusions, after which the vessel or device is advanced in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the protruded body or roller. wherein the roller rolls over the deposit and loosens it and in a manner comparable to injection dredging turns into an atronable layer. The protrusions ensure that the water penetrates between the particles, which reduces the grain tension. This loosened material from the deposit will then attempt to flow of its own motion, for example to a lower point and thus disappear by itself.
For the application of the method according to the invention, a device is sufficiently simple that the owner of a water area in which this problem occurs annually can easily make the investment himself to remove the unwanted sediment deposit without having to resort to the assistance of a dredging company that has suitable equipment.
If the water area is so small that the existing equipment, such as, for example, that used for injection dredging or an excavator dredger, hardly takes place therein, it is very possible with the method according to the invention to use a much smaller device, so that the invention offers further prospects for small dredging companies.
The peripheral speed at the location of the protrusions can be essentially equal to the speed of advancement, that is to say segregation, and a free unrolling takes place. It is also in accordance with the invention to drive the sedimented body during contact with the sediment to drive it at a pulling speed which differs from the traveling speed in the positive or negative sense at the location of the protrusions relative to the sediment. In other words, the protrusions can exert a pulling or running action, which in both cases causes intensification of the loosening and control or support of the propulsion.
Preferably, the protrusions are elastic. This not only promotes loosening but also prevents deposits such as clay from clogging the spaces between the protrusions.
A very effective and simple embodiment for the rotatable body is a roller formed by a brush. Such brushes are commercially available as street cleaning brushes. They have long wires usually of plastic, such as nylon, of great flexibility.
It has already been shown that this can very efficiently remove a sediment deposit such as a sludge layer.
The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to the drawings.
