Abstract

Provided is a water purification material capable of purifying rearing water in a fish and shellfish aquaculture farm without causing harm to fish and shellfish through elution of a harmful substance or the like. The water purification material includes a porous grain containing as a main component a calcium silicate hydrate, and has a content of aluminum of 10 mass% or less in terms of oxide and a content of titanium of 1.0 mass% or less in terms of oxide. The water purification material preferably has such grain size distribution that the water purification material has a ratio of a grain having a grain size of 0.01 mm or more and less than 0.1 mm of from 5 mass% to 30 mass%, a ratio of a grain having a grain size of 0.1 mm or more and less than 1.0 mm of from 10 mass% to 50 mass%, a ratio of a grain having a grain size of 1.0 mm or more and less than 2. 5 mm of from 10 mass% to 50 mass%, a ratio of a grain having a grain size of 2.5 mm or more and 4.0 mm or less of from 5 mass% to 30 mass%, and a ratio of a grain having a grain size of less than 0.01 mm or more than 4.0 mm of from 0 mass% to 30 mass%.
