Abstract

Provided is a water purification material capable of significantly reducing the concentrations of harmful components in rearing water, such as a water-soluble phosphorous component and an ammonium ion, derived from residual feed, excretion from fish and shellfish, and the like, in a short time period even in a fish and shellfish aquaculture farm in a semitropical area or the like in which the rearing water has a water temperature of, for example, more than 20?C. The water purification material includes: a grain A having a grain size of 0.01 mm or more and less than 1.0 mm and containing as a main component a calcium silicate hydrate; and a porous grain B having a grain size of 1.0 mm or more and 4 . 0 mm or less and containing as a main component a calcium silicate hydrate, and has a ratio of the grain B of from 10 mass% to 95 mass% with respect to a total amount of the grain A and the grain B. The grain B preferably is a grain having a porosity of 50% or more.
