Abstract
Una o mas superficies externas de una espuma extrudida se revisten mediante co-extrusion de una pelicula superficial de polimero sobre la superficie para reducir la difusion de los gases de espumacion fuera de las celulas de la espuma del polimero que se solidifica. El efecto de sellado puede involucrar el revestimiento en un lado de la espuma extrudida (espuma AB) o en ambos lados (espuma ABA). Las peliculas superficiales pueden ser solidas o espumadas. Alternativamente, se forma un cilindro a partir de una matriz anular y, preferiblemente, un mandril de enfriamiento cilindrico. Mediante la extrusion y extraccion del cilindro de espuma sobre un mandril cilindrico enfriado, que expande el diametro del cilindro, se pueden lograr las propiedades fisicas optimas de la estructura. Esto es debido a que la estructura de espuma se estira en las direcciones longitudinal y lateral. Preferiblemente, el polimero espumante tiene "resistencia inherente a la fusion" y "dureza ante la deformacion" de manera que las celulas de espuma son mas consistentes en tamano y forma. Los polimeros preferidos son el polipropileno o poliestireno.
