Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un sistema in situ para la producción de nitrógeno de alta pureza a partir de aire, que comprende; (a) un primer sistema de separación por adsorción por oscilación de presión o de membrana, capaz de separar aire a una corriente de nitrógeno parcialmente purificado que contiene oxígeno residual, y una corriente de descarga de alto contenido de oxígeno; (b) alimentadores para suministrar aire de alimentación al primer sistema de separación por adsorción por oscilación de presión o de membrana para la separación en el mismo; (c) un segundo sistema de separación criogénica, de adsorción por oscilación de presión o de membrana, capaz de separar hidrógeno relativamente puro de una corriente de hidrógeno impuro que contiene un nivel relativamente elevado de impurezas, a manera de producir una corriente de hidrógeno purificado que tiene un nivel deseablemente bajo de tales impurezas; (d) alimentadores para suministrar gas de alimentación de hidrógeno impuro, disponible in situ al segundo sistema de separación criogénica, de adsorción por oscilación de presión de membrana, para purificación en el mismo; (e) un sistema de combustión catalítica adaptado para la reacción de la citada corriente de hidrógeno purificado con oxígeno residual presente en la corriente de nitrógeno parcialmente purificado; (f) conductos para hacer pasar el nitrógeno parcialmente purificado y el hidrógeno purificado desde el primero y el segundo sistemas de separación a dicho sistema de combustión catalítica; y (g) recuperadores de una corriente de nitrógeno de alta pureza desde dicho sistema de combustión catalítica, teniendo el nitrógeno de alta pureza, un contenido de oxígeno residual deseablemente bajo, por lo cual puede producirse ventajosamente nitrógeno de alta pureza, mediante la purificación conveniente de hidrógeno impuro de bajo costo, disponible in situ y emplearse económicamente en la purificación final de la corriente de nitrógeno parcialmente purificado.
