Abstract

본 발명은 양성 유전 비등방성을 가지며 원추초점구조 및 트위스트된 평면구조를 형성하는데 효과적인 양의 키랄물질을 함유하는 키랄네마틱액정(16)인 액정과 전장의 부재하에서 원추초점구조 및 트위스트된 평면 구조를 안정화시킬 수 있는 양으로 액정 셀에 상분리된 도메인(15)으로 분포되어 액정이 전장의 인가시에 구조를 변화시키는 중합체로 이루어진 액정 광 변조물질임을 특징으로 하는 신규의 액정 광 변조 셀 및 물질에 관한 것이다. 하나의 실시예로 당해물질은 전장-OFF 하에서는 광 산란상채를 보여주고 전장-ON 하에서는 광학적으로 맑은 상태를 보여주는데 비하여 두번째 실시예에서는 그와 반대되는 상태를 보여준다. 세번째 실시예에서는 당해 신규물질이 유색의 광 반사상태, 광 산란상태 및 그들 사이의 다안정성 반사상태에서는 제로 전장하에서도 안정성을 가지며 전장의 존재하에서는 광학적으로 맑은상태를 유지한다.

제1도는 본 발명 중합체-액정물질이 주입되어 있는 광변조셀의 선단면도를 도시한 것이다,
제2도는 액정이 동방성적으로 정렬되어 광학적으로 맑은 상태가 된 당해 신규물질의 확대된 부분 선단면도를 도시한 것이다.
제3도는 중합체 도메인 근처의 액정이 동방성적으로 정렬되고, 주변액정이 원추초점구조를 지니고 있는 광 산란상태의 당해물질의 확대된 부분 선단면도를 도시한 것이다,
제4도는 액정이 트위스트된 평면구조를 지니고 있는 당해물질의 확대된 부분 선단면도를 도시한 것이다.

Claims (23)

  1. 양성 유전 비동방성을 가지며 원추초점구조 및 트위스트된 평면구조를 형성하는데 효과적인 양의 키탈물질을 함유하는 키랄 네마틱 액정인 액정과, 전장의 부재하에서 원추초점구조 및 트위스트된 평면구조를 안정화시킬 수 있는 양으로 셀에 상분리된 도메인으로 분포되어 액정이 전장의 인가시에 구조를 변화시키는 중합체로 이루어진 액정 관 변조물질을 포함하는 광 변조 셀.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 키랄네마틱 액정이 가시광영역이 이외의 광을 반사시키는 핏치길이를 갖는 셀.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 키랄네마틱 액정이 적외선영역에서 광을 반사시키는 핏치길이를 갖는 셀.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 키랄네마틱 액정의 핏치빌이가 약 1.0~0.4마이크론 범위인 셀.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 키랄네마틱 액정이 네마틱액정과 키랄물질의 총중량을 기준으로 약 1~16중량%의 키랄물질을 함유하는 셀.
  6. 제1,2,3 또는 4항에 있어서, 키라네마틱 액정이 네마틱액정과 키랄물질의 총중량을 기준으로 약 1-16중량%의 키랄물질을 함유하는 셀.
  7. 제1항에 있어서, 키랄 네마틱 액정이 가시광 영역에서 광을 반사시키는 핏치길이를 갖는 셀.
  8. 제7항에 있어서, 키랄네마틱 액정의 핏치길이가 약 0.25-0.44마이크론 범위인 셀.
  9. 제7항에 있어서, 키랄네마틱 액정이 네마틱액정과 키랄물질의 총 중량을 기준으로 약 27~66%의 키랄물질을 함유하는 셀.
  10. 제1, 2 또는 7항에 있어서, 액정분자를 정열시키도록 처리된 셀벽 구조를 포함하는 셀.
  11. 제1항에 있어서, 중합체가 셀에 있는 중합체와 액정의 총 중량을 기준으로 약 1.5~40%의 양으로 존재하는 셀.
  12. 제1, 2 또는 3항에 있어서, 중합체 안정 액정이 전장-ON 상태에서 동방성 정렬을 하며, 주변지역 액정이 전장-OFF 상태하에서는 광학적으로 맑은 광 산란 원추구조를, 전장-ON 상태하에서는 광학적으로 맑은 동방성 정렬을 하는 셀.
  13. 제1,2 또는 3항에 있어서, 중합체 안정 액정이 전장-OFF 상태하에서 트위스트된 평면구조를 가지며, 주변지역 액정이 전장-OFF 상태하에서는 광학적으로 맑은 트위스트된 평면구조를, 전장-ON 상태하에서는 광 산란 원추초점구조를 지니는 셀.
  14. 제1항 또는 제7항에 있어서, 중합체 안정 액정이 고전장-ON 상태의 제거후 전장-OFF 상태하에서는 안정된 광반사 트위스트된 평면구조를, 저전장-ON 상태의 제거후의 전장-OFF 상태하에서는 안정한 광 산란 원추초점구조를 나타내는 셀.
  15. 최대 참고강도를 반사시키는 안정한 컬러반사상태와 전압펄스를 인가시키므로서 반사의 최소참고강도를 나타내는 안정한 광 산란상태 사이를 전환시킬 수 있는 중합체 안정 키랄 네마틱 액정을 함유하는 광변조 셀을 어드레스 시키는 방법에 있어서, 상기 최대 및 최소 참고강도사이의 컬러 반사도 강도를 갖는 안정한 상태의 연속체를 이루는데 충분한, 다양한 크기의 전압펄스를 가하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
  16. 제15항에 있어서, AC제곱 전압펄스를 인가하는 것을 포함하는 방법.
  17. 제15항에 있어서, 상기 펄스를 상기 물질이 반사상태에서 산란상태로 전환되는 크기 이하로인가시키는 것을 포함하는 방법.
  18. 상기 키랄네마틱 물질으 제1부분이 제1광학상태를, 제2부분이 제2광학상태를 나타내게 하는데 충분한 시간 및 전압의 전장펄스를 상기 물질에 가하므로서 물질이 제1광학상태에 있는 물질의 양에 비례한 최대 및 최소사이에 선택된 강도를 연속적으로 반사시키는 것을 포함하는, 최대 및 최소강도 사이로 키랄네마틱 액정과 중합체로 이루어진 광변조 물질로부터의 유색광의 반사강도를 조정하는 방법.
  19. 제18항에 있어서, 제1광학상태에 있는 키랄네마틱 물질이 평면구조를 나타내고 제2광학상태에 있는 키랄네마틱 물질이 원추초점구조를 나타내는 방법.
  20. 물질의 제1부분은 제1광학상태이고, 물질의 제2부분은 제2광학상태인, 양성유전 비등방성을 갖는 키랄네마틱액정과중합체의 상분리된 도메인으로 구성된 액정 광 변조물질 및 제1광학상태에서 상기 물질의 일부를 변화시키기에 충분한 전압 및 시간의 펄스를 제공하므로서 반사된 광의 강도를 선택적으로 조정시킬 수 있는, 물질을 통하는 전자을 설정하기 위한 수단을 포함하는 광 변조장치.
  21. 제20항에 있어서, 제1광학상태의 물질은 평면구조를 나타내고 제2광학상태의 물질은 원추초점구조를 나타내는 장치.
  22. 제20항에 있어서, 액정을 정렬시키도록 처리된 셀벽구조을 포함하는 장치.
  23. 제20항에 있어서, 상기 물질을 통하는 전장을 설정하기 위한 수단이 AC펄스를 제공하는데 적합한 장치.
