종래의 전지는 전형적으로 전지 상에 형성된 금속화층 상에 용접되는 금속 트레이스를 사용하여 상호접속되는데 바람직하지 않은 저항 손실을 방지하기 위해, 전지 당 발생되는 높은 전류 및 낮은 전압을 수용하기 위해 대체로 각 전지 및 전지들 간에 대량의 재료를 필요로 한다.

발명의 실시 형태의 상세한 설명

본 발명의 일 구현예에서, 임의로 횡방향 치수가 약 1 mm 이하인 매우 많은 수의 작은 크기의 전지들은 통상 24,000 mm2 정도인 종래의 태양 전지와는 전혀 다른 방식으로 상호접속되어 있다. 본 발명의 전지들의 면적은 좋기로는 100 ㎛2 내지 약 3000 mm2, 보다 바람직하게는 약 .01 mm2 내지 약 625 mm2, 더욱 더 바람직하게는 약 1 mm2 내지 약 50 mm2이다. 마찬가지로, 본 발명의 구현예에서, 각 전지에 의해 생성되는 전류는 바람직하게는 약 1.1A 미만, 보다 바람직하게는 약 25A 미만, 및 더욱 바람직하게는 약 20mA 미만이다. 기존 실무상, 태양 전지는 일반적으로 공칭 모듈 전압을 달성하기 위해 직렬로 상호접속된다. 그런 다음 이들 모듈은 직렬로 접속되어 인버터나 또는 다른 다음 단계 전력 처리 구성 요소에 접속되는 스트링 전압을 달성한다. 본 발명의 마이크로-전지의 경우, 전지들은 작은 배수로 상호접속되어 더 작은 서브세트를 형성하며, 이들은 가변 직렬-병렬 조합으로 더욱 상호접속되어, 크기가 더 큰 전지로는 달성하기 어려운 보다 우수한 시스템 신뢰성, 음영 허용, 구성 요소 변동이나 고장에 대한 견고성을 부여해준다. 예를 들어, 통상의 기존 시스템에서는 대형 태양 전지들이 직렬로 연결되기 때문에 하나의 전지만 부분적으로 그늘져도 전지의 전체 서브스트링에 의해 생산되는 전류와 전압이 저하된다. 이렇게 되면 서브스트링은 일반적으로 예를 들어 바이패스 다이오드 사용에 의해 꺼지므로 나머지 스트링이 최대 전력으로 계속 작동할 수 있다. 그러나 이것은 차광된 전지가 수 초 이내에 150℃ 내지 200℃까지 온도를 상승시키고 음영이 사라질 때까지 이 온도를 유지할 수 있는 핫 스팟 문제를 해결하지 못한다. 이와 대조적으로, 본 발명의 전지는 상대적으로 소형이고, 바람직하게도 각각의 서브-어레이에서 직렬로 더 적은 전지로, 조밀한 저전류 네트워크 구성으로 배열되므로, 설령 더 많은 수의 더 작은 전지들에 음영이 져도, 서브-어레이에서 그늘지지 않은 전지들은 여전히 저전류 및 약간 낮은 전압으로 전력을 제공할 수 있다. 전류가 너무 적고 전력을 모으는데 이용가능한 경로가 너무 많으므로, 그늘진 전지(들)의 과열은 문제가 되지 않으며, 이에 따라 시스템의 신뢰성이 증가된다. 다른 서브-어레이들(병렬 연결된 것들)은 전체 전류로 전력을 지속적으로 생산할 수 있다. 그러므로 조밀한 저수준의 네트워크 배열은 지엽적인 변동을 평균화시킬 수 있으므로, 보다 높은 효율의 시스템을 얻을 수 있다. 예를 들어, 도 7에 도시된 바와 같이, 마이크로-태양 전지 927은 다른 마이크로 태양 전지와 직렬 접속되어 "2 직렬" 배열을 형성한다. 다음으로 이 유닛을 복제하여 병렬 접속시켜 이번에는 "2 병렬" 세트가 형성되고, 이번에는 이것이 3회 복제 및 접속되어 "3 직렬" 세트가 형성되고, 이것이 다시 4회 복제 및 병렬 접속되어 다음의 "4 병렬" 세트가 형성된다. 이들 유닛은 전압, 전류 및 면적 범위와 관련하여 원하는 시스템 구성에 도달할 때까지 복수회 반복된다. 이러한 상호접속은 프로세스를 통해 동시에 조립되므로 제조공정이 크게 단순화되고 비용이 절감되며 신뢰성도 향상된다.
명세서와 청구범위에서, "약", "대략"의 의미는 기재된 수량의 20 퍼센트(20%) 이내를 의미한다. 본원에서, 단수 "a", "an" 및 "the"는 달리 명시적으로 반대 의미를 나타내지 않는 한, 복수도 포함하는 것이다. 그러므로 에를 들어, "관능기(a functional group)"이라는 표현은 하나 이상의 관능기를 나타내며, "그 방법(the method)"라는 표현은 당업자가 이해 및 인식하는 바와 같이, 동등한 단계들과 방법을 포괄하며, 이는 다른 것에 대해서도 마찬가지이다.

Claims (26)
- 전기적으로 직렬 연결된 제1 광전지의 제1 스트링; 및
전기적으로 직렬 연결된 제2 광전지의 제2 스트링으로서, 상기 제2 스트링은 상기 제1 스트링과 전기적으로 병렬 연결된 것인, 전기적으로 직렬 연결된 제2 광전지의 제2 스트링
을 포함하는 상호접속된 광전지 어레이로서,
여기서 상기 제1 전지 각각은 제1 형상을 갖고 상기 제2 전지 각각은 제2 형상을 갖는 것인, 상호접속된 광전지 어레이. - 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1 전지 각각은 대략 제1 표면적을 갖고, 상기 제2 전지 각각은 대략 제2 표면적을 갖는 것인 어레이.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 제1 표면적은 상기 제2 표면적과 다른 것인 어레이.

개개의 전지들의 서로에 대한 상대적인 배향을 유지하면서 개개의 전지들을 분리하고;
개개의 전지들을 전기적으로 상호접속하고; 및
캐리어로부터 어레이를 제거하는 단계들을 포함하되,
여기서 어레이 내의 개개 전지들은 상대적인 배향을 유지하는 것인, 상호접속된 광전지 어레이를 제조하는 방법. - 제21항에 있어서, 레이저를 사용하는 단계는 전지를 금속화하기 전에 수행되는 것인 방법.
- 제21항에 있어서, 레이저는 수직 공진 표면 발광 레이저(VCSEL) 또는 수직 외부 공진 표면 발광 레이저(VECSEL)를 포함하는 것인 방법.
