Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte, and more specifically, to a method for manufacturing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte that can continuously mass-produce the sulfide-based solid electrolyte.
With the recent increase in demand for electric vehicles, demand for lithium-ion batteries with high energy and high power density is also increasing. However, because it uses a flammable liquid electrolyte, there is a risk of safety problems such as fire, which limits its use as a next-generation electric vehicle battery. To overcome these problems, research on solid electrolytes is attracting attention. Solid electrolytes not only have excellent stability, but can also be stacked in a bipolar structure, greatly improving energy density compared to existing lithium-ion batteries.
One of the key goals of solid electrolyte development is to achieve high ionic conductivity comparable to that of liquid electrolytes even at room temperature. Among various inorganic solid electrolytes, sulfide-based solid electrolytes are the most promising because they have higher ionic conductivity than oxide-based solid electrolytes due to the larger ionic radius and polarization rate of S 2 - compared to O 2 - .
However, sulfide-based solid electrolytes are very expensive and highly reactive with moisture, generating harmful H 2 S gas, making mass production and particle size control difficult, making commercialization difficult.
A dry method using a ball milling process is proposed when manufacturing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte, such as Korean Patent Publication Nos. 10-2021-0036543 and 10-2021-0037540, but it is efficient because it consumes large energy and has a long reaction time. It's not. Therefore, recently, as in Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2019-0066792, a process for mass synthesizing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte through dissolving a precursor in an organic solvent and precipitation has been proposed. This has the advantage of making it easy to synthesize a uniform solid electrolyte, but it has the problem of deteriorating properties due to the organic solvent remaining inside.
Therefore, there is a need to develop a manufacturing process for a solid electrolyte that has high purity and can be mass-produced.
The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte that can continuously mass-produce the sulfide-based solid electrolyte.

Hereinafter, the method for producing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in more detail.
In general, sulfide-based solid electrolytes have been easily manufactured by a dry method through ball milling. However, when manufacturing using a dry method, a high-energy milling process is used, which requires a lot of energy and time, making mass production difficult and manufacturing costs high.
Considering these problems, a wet method was proposed to synthesize a large amount of sulfide-based solid electrolyte by dissolving the precursor in an organic solvent and precipitation. In the case of the wet method, a solid electrolyte is produced by dissolving the precursor in an organic solvent and drying it, making mass production easy. However, it is difficult to control the composition, and the ionic conductivity is reduced due to low yield and residual solvent, making it difficult to apply it as a solid electrolyte.

Referring to FIG. 1, a precursor solution 10 containing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor is prepared.
The precursor solution 10 can be formed by dissolving or dispersing a sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor in a solvent. The solvent is preferably an organic solvent. The organic solvent is isopropanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, dimethylcarbonate, ethyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran, and 1,2-dimethoxyethane. Examples include (1,2-Dimethoxyethane), propyleneglycoldimethylether, acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, or mixtures thereof, but are not limited thereto.
When dissolving or dispersing the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor in the solvent, a stirrer, paste mixer, vortex mixer, tip type ultrasonic treatment device, or bath type is used. An ultrasonic processing device or the like can be used.
The sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor may include lithium sulfide and a halogen compound.
The lithium sulfide may include one or more materials selected from the group consisting of Li 2 S, Li 2 S 2 , Li 2 S 4 , and Li 2 S 6 .
The halogen compound may include one or more materials selected from the group consisting of lithium bromide (LiBr), lithium chloride (LiCl), lithium iodide (LiI), and lithium fluoride (LiF).
The sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor may further include a metal compound.
상기 금속화합물의 예로는 AlCl3, SiCl4, P2S5, GaSO4, ICl, SnCl4, GeCl2, SbCl3, ZnCl4, AsCl3, WCl6, VCl2, VCl3, CaCl2 등을 들 수 있다.The metal compounds include aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P), gallium (Ga), iodine (I), tin (Sn), germanium (Ge), antimony (Sb), zinc (Zn), It may include one or more substances selected from the group consisting of arsenic (As), tungsten (W), selenium (Se), vanadium (V), and calcium (Ca). Examples of the metal compounds include AlCl 3 , SiCl 4 , P 2 S 5 , GaSO 4 , ICl, SnCl 4 , GeCl 2 , SbCl 3, ZnCl 4 , AsCl 3 , WCl 6 , VCl 2 , VCl 3 , CaCl 2, etc. I can hear it.
The precursor solution may further include fatty acid. Fatty acid can oil the surface of a solid electrolyte or form a hydrophobic or lipophobic surface while forming hydrocarbons, preventing direct contact between sulfide-based solid electrolyte and moisture and improving atmospheric stability. It can be improved. The fatty acid is preferably contained in the precursor solution in an amount of 0.1 to 50 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor.
The fatty acid may be a fatty acid having a carbon number of C14 to C22. Fatty acids with a large carbon number have a long alkyl chain and can completely cap the solid electrolyte, so they can include fatty acids with a carbon number of C14 or more and C22 or less, such as oleic acid and palmitic acid. It may be palmitic acid, stearic acid, or a mixture thereof. In particular, in the case of oleic acid, the hydrophilic group (-COOH) and oleophilic group ((CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)7CH3) inhibit particle aggregation and allow uniform dispersion of the precursor solution, resulting in uniform composition and particle size. Eggplant can synthesize solid electrolytes.
The precursor solution may further include a compound having an amino group. The compound having an amino group is a material that can form a complex with lithium element and can serve as a complexing agent. Since the amino group containing the nitrogen element has high affinity with the lithium element, it is easy to form aggregates by combining with lithium-containing materials, such as Li 3 PS 4 and LiX (X = halogen atom). Therefore, the production of hydrogen sulfide can be suppressed because the precursor raw material is well dispersed and fixed through the compound having an amino group. The compound having an amino group is preferably contained in the precursor solution in an amount of 0.1 to 50 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor.

The compound having the amino group may be a compound having at least two tertiary amino groups.
The compound having at least two tertiary amino groups may include one or more substances selected from the group consisting of tetramethylethylenediamine, tetraethylethylenediamine, tetramethyldiaminopropane, and tetraethyldiaminopropane.
In addition, the precursor solution is a group consisting of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid di-sodium salt, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tri-sodium salt, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetra-sodium salt, ethanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine. It may further include one or more substances selected from. These materials can form polymer materials at high temperatures by combining with metals in the precursor solution, slowing the precipitation and decomposition reactions of droplets and forming small, solid powder particles. One or more substances selected from the group consisting of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid di-sodium salt, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tri-sodium salt, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetra-sodium salt, ethanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine It is preferable that the precursor solution contains 0.1 to 50 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor.
The concentration of the precursor solution 10 is preferably about 0.05 to 5 M. If the concentration of the precursor solution is too high, it may be difficult to disperse or dissolve the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor in the solvent, and droplets may be difficult to generate, which may limit the sufficient recovery of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte.
When forming the precursor solution 10, ultrasonic waves may be applied to improve the degree of dispersion or dissolution of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor, and the ultrasonic waves are preferably performed for about 10 minutes to 1 hour, but are not limited to this. no.
The precursor solution 10 is introduced into the droplet generator 20 to generate droplets. The precursor solution 10 can be introduced into the droplet generator 20 using a pump 50 or the like. The droplet generator 20 may include an ultrasonic spray device, an air nozzle spray device, an ultrasonic nozzle spray device, a filter expansion aerosol generator (FEAG), an electrostatic spray device, etc. The size of the droplet has a great influence on the size of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte particles produced. Therefore, it is preferable that the size of the droplet is controlled to 0.1 to 100 μm.
The droplets are sprayed into a preheated reactor (e.g., furnace) 30. The droplets can be moved to the reactor 30 using a carrier gas 60. Depending on the reaction system, the carrier gas is an inert gas such as argon (Ar) or nitrogen (N 2 ), a reducing gas such as hydrogen (H 2 ), hydrogen sulfide gas, or an inert gas, a reducing gas, and a hydrogen sulfide gas. It is preferable that it is a mixed gas of two or more types selected from the group. The carrier gas is supplied at a flow rate of 1 to 100 L/min, more preferably 1 to 50 L/min. If the flow rate of the carrier gas is too high, the sulfide-based solid electrolyte may not be sufficiently crystallized. The flow rate of the carrier gas can be controlled through the flow meter 70. The supply of the carrier gas can be controlled through the valve (V1).
In the reactor 30, the droplet is thermally decomposed to produce a sulfide-based solid electrolyte. The precursor solution in the droplet state is thermally decomposed in the reactor to form sulfide-based solid electrolyte particles. In the reactor 30, the organic or polymers contained in the liquid droplets are decomposed, and only the components of the desired composition remain.
The formation stage of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte particles can be largely divided into the first and second stages. In the first stage, the initially formed non-agglomerated primary nanoparticles grow as the reaction progresses, and in the second stage, the primary nanoparticles grow as the reaction progresses. They aggregate to form secondary nanoparticles. The size of the sulfide-based solid electrolyte particles formed is an important factor in controlling the residence time of the droplets in the reactor and controlling the temperature of the reactor.
The reaction time within the reactor 30 may be controlled through the flow rate of the carrier gas. The residence time in the reactor is preferably controlled to 1 to 60 seconds depending on the size of the droplet and the reaction rate of the reactant, and it is desirable to control the flow rate of the carrier gas by taking this into consideration. If the carrier gas flow rate is too low, the liquid droplets cannot be transported smoothly, which may lower the process yield. If the carrier gas flow rate is too high, the residence time in the reactor may be low, which may cause problems with poor phase formation.
The temperature within the reactor 30 is an environment in which the sulfide-based solid electrolyte precursor can be sufficiently vaporized, and is preferably about 150 to 800°C, more preferably about 200 to 600°C. When the temperature in the reactor is low, the proportion of amorphous particles may increase, and at high temperatures, the crystallinity of the synthesized sulfide-based solid electrolyte particles may increase. If the temperature in the reactor is too low, the solvent contained in the precursor solution may not be sufficiently removed and ionic conductivity may decrease, and if it is too high, the temperature may be transferred to another phase having a secondary phase.
The reactor 30 may be an electric furnace, flame furnace, plasma device, or microwave device. The reactor is preferably made of a heat-resistant ceramic material such as glass or alumina.
The sulfide-based solid electrolyte is collected. Particles that have passed through the reactor can be collected in a collector (particle recovery device) 40. The collector 40 may be a recovery device using a bag filter, a recovery device using a cylindrical filter paper, or a recovery device using a cyclone.
In order to increase the crystalline phase of the collected sulfide-based solid electrolyte, a highly crystalline sulfide-based solid electrolyte can be manufactured through a heat treatment process. The heat treatment is preferably performed at a temperature of about 500 to 900°C.
By synthesizing sulfide-based solid electrolyte particles using the above method, there is no need for a grinding process that causes defects in the properties of the particles, the manufacturing process can be unified, and process time and costs can be saved. In addition, a sulfide-based solid electrolyte having a uniform size can be manufactured, and continuous production is possible using this method.
