상기 식물성 코팅액으로는 찹쌀가루에 우뭇가사리, 미역, 다시마 등의 해조류를 끓인 물을 첨가하여 혼합한 것이 사용될 수 있다. 바람직하게는 찹쌀에 해조추출물, 예를 들어 우뭇가사리 등의 해조류를 끓인 물을 1:0.6~1의 비로 혼합하여 제조되는 것이 바람직하다. 또한 상기 식물성코팅액에는 1 ~ 5 중량%의 죽염을 첨가하는 것이 바람직하다. 죽염을 첨가함으로써 식물성 코팅액의 보존성을 높이고, 성형된 황토벽돌에 곰팡이가 발생하는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 상기 찹쌀과 해초성분은 천연접착제로서 작용하여 황토벽돌의 외표면에 분사되면 일정깊이까지 흡수되어 황토벽돌 외부의 황토입자간의 결합력을 높여 강도를 높이고, 황토벽돌의 표면에 피막을 형성하여 황토의 갈라짐현상을 방지하고 황토입자가 묻어나는 것을 방지해 준다. 이 경우 용도에 따라 식물성 코팅액의 분사횟수, 분사량 내지는 분사시간을 조절함으로써 강도를 조절할 수 있다. 황토벽돌의 외표면은 결합액에 의하여 강도가 증가하지만, 내부는 황토가 그대로 유지되므로 황토본연의 기능을 발휘할 수 있게 되어 바람직하다.The vegetable coating solution may be mixed with glutinous rice flour by adding water boiled seaweed, such as wormwood, seaweed, kelp. 청양지방에서 채취한 황토를 분쇄하고 체를 이용하여 걸러서 준비하였다. 상기 황토를 24시간 적치하여 황토의 수분함량을 조절하였다. 황토 100중량부에 대하여 참숯가루 5 중량부, 볏짚 7 중량부, 옥분말 3 중량부를 혼합하여 황토벽돌 성형 기에 넣어 250t으로 가압하여 190×90×75 규격의 황토벽돌을 성형하였다. 상기 성형벽돌의 외표면에 찹쌀가루를 우뭇가사리를 끓인 물과 6:4의 비로 혼합한 후 죽염을 첨가하여 제조한 식물성 코팅액을 황토벽돌 표면이 충분히 젖을 정도로 분사하였다. 이를 상온에서 7일 동안 자연건조 하였다.The ocher collected from Cheongyang province was crushed and prepared by sieving.
