- 영상 표시를 위한 빛을 공급하는 프론트 라이트 유닛과; 상기 프론트 라이트 유닛으로부터 빛을 입사받고, 전압의 인가 여부에 따라 투과되는 빛의 편광 상태를 조절하여 영상 표시를 수행하는 액정표시패널과; 상기 프론트 라이트 유닛과 상기 액정표시패널 사이에 위치하며, 제 1 방향의 투과축이 구비된 제 1 편광판과; 상기 액정표시패널을 기준으로 상기 제 1 편광판의 반대편에 마련되며, 제 2 방향의 투과축이 구비된 제 2 편광판; 및 상기 액정표시패널과 상기 제 2 편광판 사이에 위치하며, 상기 액정표시패널을 투과하는 빛의 편광 상태에 따라 선택적으로 반사/투과시키는 선택반사/투과부; 를 포함하여 액정표시장치가 구성되며,상기 선택반사/투과부는, 입사되는 빛의 편광 특성에 따라 좌원편광된 빛 또는 우원편광된 빛을 선택적으로 투과/반사시키는 CLC 필름과; 상기 CLC 필름의 앞면에 마련되며, 입사되는 빛에 대하여 λ/4의 위상차를 발생시키는 제 1 위상차 보상 필름; 및 상기 CLC 필름의 뒷면에 마련되며, 입사되는 빛에 대하여 λ/4의 위상차를 발생시키는 제 2 위상차 보상 필름; 을 구비하고,상기 선택반사/투과부에서 입사되는 빛에 대한 선택적인 반사/투과가 수행됨으로써, 반사모드 구동으로 구현되어 상기 액정표시장치의 전면부에 영상을 표시하는 제 1 디스플레이 모드 및 투과모드 구동으로 구현되어 상기 액정표시장치의 후면부에 영상을 표시하는 제 2 디스플레이 모드의 양방향으로 영상을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
