PURPOSE:To obtain a superconductor stably showing superconductivity for a long period without using liquid helium and being influenced by a surrounding atmosphere such as temperature in air, comprising a compound containing barium copper, titanium, oxygen, scandium and/or yttrium and/or lanthanide. CONSTITUTION:A superconductor comprising a compound containing barium, copper, titanium, oxygen, scandium and/or yttrium and/or lanthanide. A compound having a general composition formula BaxA1-xCu1-yTiyO3-z (A is Sc, Y or lanthanide-based rare earth element; 0.3<x<0.8; 0.01<y<0.5; 0<=z<=1). La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb or Lu may be cited as the lanthanide.
