Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrothermal recording head which is electrochemically stable, is excellent in bond strength with a substrate and has a highly fine electrode pattern, by sequentially providing an adhesive layer comprising an adhesive and an electrode pattern comprising a platinum group element provided by electroless plating, on a substrate in that order from the substrate side. CONSTITUTION:A recording head 1 comprises an adhesive layer 3 comprising a rubber- based adhesive or the like provided on a substrate 2, an electrode pattern consisting of a plurality of electrode elements 4 comprising a platinum group element, and, optionally, an insulating film 5 provided on the electrode pattern except tip parts of the electrode elements 4. As the adhesive constituting the adhesive layer 3, a thermosetting adhesive is used, and an adhesive comprising a thermosetting polymer and an elastomer is preferably used. Each of the electrode elements 4 on the adhesive layer 3 is composed of a thin film comprising a platinum group element and provided by electroless plating. The thin film is formed of a platinum group metal such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium and ruthenium, or an alloy containing at least one of the platinum group metals, among which a platinum-containing alloy is particularly preferable from the viewpoint of electrochemical stability. The insulating film 5 comprises a polyimide or tetrafluoroethylene film or the like.
