Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out direct plating of superior corrosion resistance by activating stainless steel in a predetermined acidic bath by electrolytic reduction with hydrogen and plating the steel with a predetermined noble metal, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A product made of stainless steel is electrolyzed as a cathode in an acidic soln. of pH≤7 contg. no halogen ion to reduce a passive film on the product surface with hydrogen, thus activating the product. Next, a desired plating metal component such as Au, Au alloy, Pd, Pt, Ni or Cu is added to the above soln., and plating is carried out using the resulting plating soln. The activated product is pref. pulled up prior to plating while being applied with an electric field in succession.
