Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a recording head which is high in density and is electrochemically stable, by providing an electrode pattern comprising a platinum group element on a substrate by electroless plating. CONSTITUTION:A recording head 1 comprises an electrode pattern consisting of a plurality of electrode elements 3 comprising a platinum group element provided on an insulating substrate 2, and an insulating film 4 provided on the electrode elements 3 except tip parts of the elements (the parts brought into contact with an ink or the like). The electrode element 3 is composed of a thin film comprising a platinum group element and provided by electroless plating. The thin film is preferably formed of a platinum group element such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium and ruthenium, or an alloy containing at least one of the platinum group elements, among which platinum or a platinum-containing alloy is particularly preferable from the viewpoint of electrochemical stability. Since bonding strength can be obtained between the electrode pattern composed of the thin film comprising the platinum group element provided by the electroless plating and the substrate, an electrothermal head favorable in both abrasion resistance and electrochemical characteristics can be obtained.
