Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect flaws on the inner surface of a slender hole automatically and highly accurately, by magnetizing the inner surface of the hole with a conductor red, and moving a scanner including a magnetism sensor along the conductor rod. CONSTITUTION:A conductor rod 10 is arranged at the center of a hole 1c, which is provided in a material under test 1. When a current 11 is made to flow, main magnetic flux 3 is formed around the conductor rod 10. At this time, magnetic poles are not formed in the conductor rod 10. Therefore, attracting force is not generated between the conductor rod 10 and an inner surface 1c of a hole. Since the conductor rod 10 is arranged at the center of the hole 1c, the main magnetic flux 3 has a concentric pattern. Background magnetic flux is not yielded in the hole 1c. The inner surface of the hole 1c is magnetized by the current 11, which flows through the conductor rod 10. When a material defect is present on the inner surface of the hole 1c, leaking magnetic flux is yielded in the vicinity of the material defect. The leaking magnetic flux is detected with a leaking magnetic flux detecting part. The leaking magnetic flux detecting part is moved in the circumferential direction of the hole 1c and the axial direction. The flaws are detected on the entire inner surface of the hole.
