Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase a contrast ratio by executing a multi-value information recording with utilizing the large change of a reflection factor and a transmission factor to the light of a specified wavelength in correspondence to the type of a liquid crystal phase. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer 3, which is composed of the thin film of a high molecular liquid crystal, is formed on a glass substrate 1 with providing a reflecting layer 2 on the substrate 1 as needed and a protecting layer 4 is provided on the layer 3. Energy is given to the recording layer 3 by controlling to be a multi-value larger than binary. Then, the high molecular liquid crystal of respective recording parts is selectively made temperature-up to a specified liquid crystal phase 7 or an isotropic phase 6 and after that, a quenching is executed. Thus, the multi-value information recording can be executed. Thus, the high contrast can be obtained.
