Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish clear display with a reflection type liq. crystal display cell, provide sufficient thinness and hardness to the cell, and make the cell cost lower by using a plastic film as one insulating cell substrate with a reflecting sheet attached to the outside and making the other insulating substrate of glass.
CONSTITUTION: A thin polyester film or the like free from damage is used as under substate 12, and reflecting sheet 14 is attached to the outside. On the other hand, as upper substrate 11 glass substrate 11 is used. Thus, substrate 12 is made thinner to narrow regions where light 18 and light 19 passing through selective region 15 and nonselective region 16 once are present. Such light 18 and light 19 cause unclear display. The hardness of the resulting display cell can be assured by the glass material of substrate 11. Since substrate 12 is thinner and cheaper than glass substrate 11, as compared to a conventional cell using glass substrates as upper and under substrates, this cell becomes of thinner type, the cost is reduced, and clear display can be accomplished.
