Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the rate of component mixing of slab connecting parts by stopping pouring and disposing billets of the special shape in the molten metal surface in mold and performing additional pouring after allowing the same to freeze. CONSTITUTION:After stopping of pouring, a tundish is retreated and the powder on the molten surface is removed. A plurality of annular billets 3 are disposed in the width direction of a mold 1 with their annular axes being aligned so that the apprixmate half portions of their inside diameters sink under the molten metal surface. Coolant 5 is sprayed on the molten metal surface to allow the surface to freeze. Next, the slab is pulled out to a suitable length to lower the molten metal surface, after which an immersion nozzle 6 is lowered and new molten steel 4 is cast. This method enables the component mixing of the slag connecting parts to be suppressed and the breakout accident accompanied with slab drawing to be prevented.
