Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress a noise level below conventional 40% and to to obtain the pyroelectric element with high reliability by polarizing only a sensing electrode part. CONSTITUTION:A thin plate 2 which is not polarized is provided with sensing electrodes S-1 and S-2 and only the electrode parts are polarized. In general, when the polarization processing is performed, secondary operation such as piezoelectric operation is caused by a part which does not require a pyroelectric function and the pyroelectric element is stressed owing to a difference in heat expansion among materials as the temperature varies, thereby generating a noise. The noise is generated with width W and length L at the time of conventional polarization processing, but the piezoelectric secondary operation is only a+a and E when only the sensing electrode parts are polarized; and the noise level ratio under the same conditions is suppressed below about 40%, so that the highly reliable pyroelectric element is obtained.
