Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the polishing accuracy of an optical fiber connector and the operating characteristics of a polishing device therefor by providing a cam member for causing the reciprocating motion of an optical fiber connector supporter and a single motor for causing the interlocked motion of a polishing body via rotation coupling. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber connector as a machining object is retained with a chuck as a supporter. Then, a common motor 5 is driven and a polishing body is turned at a high speed. Interlocked therewith, the cam member 48 of a supporter 4 is turned via speed reduction means (gears) 43 and 44, and the supporter 4 is caused to give a reciprocating oscillation motion in a planar direction. Consequently, while the fixed gear part of a rotating means and the gear train of the supporter 4 are engaged with each other, thereby causing the reciprocating turn of the chuck of the supporter 4 by an angle of 360 deg. or more, the connector is pressed to the polishing side of the polishing body and subjected to a spherical machining process.
