[Also in Division F2] A dental handpiece for angularly oscillating a dental tool so that each oscillation occupies a fraction of a full turn, comprises a driving spindle 1 and a driven spindle 8 for connection with the tool the spindles being interconnected by a pin and slot connection which may comprise a fork 15, pivotal between the spindles and engaged by crank pins 5, 11 on plates 4, 9 secured to the driving spindle and the driven spindle respectively. As the driving spindle rotates, the crank pin 5 moves between the limbs of the fork 15 and thus oscillates the fork about a screw 16 parallel to the driving spindle. The crank pin 11, which, is also received between the limbs of the fork, is oscillated by the fork about the axis of the driven spindle and thus angularly oscillates the driven spindle and the tool, the angle of oscillation being determined by the relative positions of the axes of the spindles and the crank pins. The spindles may be coaxial, at a small angle to one another or parallel to one another. In a modification, the crank pin 5 engages a groove in the plate 9 on the driven spindle, the fork 15 and the crank pin 11 being omitted.
