Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of a stage for forming guide grooves by forming an amorphous substd. magnetic garnet layer on a substrate, scanning prescribed laser light thereto to crystallize the layer and forming the guide groove by utilizing the difference in etching rate between crystallized regions and non- crystallized regions. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous bismuth substd. magnetic garnet layer 2 is formed by a sputtering method on the GGG substrate 1 having a disk shape and the laser light 3 condensed to the width of the guide groove 5 is concentrically or spirally scanned on this substrate 1 to crystallize said layer. Steps are made by utilizing the difference in the etching rate between the crystallized regions and the non-crystallized regions and the disk substrate 1 is formed with such steps as the guide grooves 5. Since the formation of the guide grooves 5 is executed not on the surface of the substrate 1 but on the surface of the recording medium in such a manner, the formation is simpler than heretofore. The production cost is thereby reduced.
