Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve magnetic characteristics by a method wherein specific rare earths-iron-boron magnet powder is compression-molded, a green compact is manufactured, a temperature and pressure are specified and the green compact is hot-hydrostatic-pressed. CONSTITUTION:In rare earths-iron-boron magnet powder containing a ferromagnetic R2Fe14B phase 1 (R represents one kind or more of rare earth elements including Y) and a non-magnetic phase (an R rich phase 2) further abounding in rare earth elements, the abundance ratio of the R2Fe14B phase 1 and the R rich phase 2 is brought to 60vol.%<the R2Fe14B phase<98vol.% and 2vol.%<the R rich phase<40vol.%, the R2Fe14B phase is kept within the magnitude of a range from 0.3mum to 50mum, and the R2Fe14B phase is made to exist in a single crystal at 50% or more of rare earths-iron-boron magnet powder. Rare earths-iron-boron magnet powder, 70% or more of the surface of the R2Fe14B phase of which is coated with the R rich phase 2 and which is hardly strained, is compression-molded and a green compact is manufactured, and the green compact is hot-hydrostatic-pressed at a temperature from 500 deg.C to 900 deg.C and pressure of 3.5X10<5>Torr or more. Accordingly, magnetic characteristics are improved.
