Abstract

PURPOSE:To form such an image plane with which responsiveness and contrast are compatible by subjecting the surfaces of the oriented films on display substrates to an orientation treatment so as to have >=2 angles of orientation, thereby changing tilt angles. CONSTITUTION:A polarizing plate 3 is deposited on one face of the transparent substrate 2 and a transparent electrode 4 and the oriented film 5 are deposited on the other face. The substrate is imposed on a turn table 6 by positioning the oriented film side upward and aligning the center to the center of the table. The twist direction A of a liquid crystal layer and the progressing direction D of a rubbing roller 7 are then matched and the oriented film is repeatedly rubbed. The orientation treatment is executed by rotating the turn table 6 clockwise by an angle delta1 and further, the orientation treatment is executed by rotating the table counterclockwise by an angle delta2. The similar substrate 1' having the transparent electrode 4' in the orthogonal state with the electrode 4 and the substrate 1 are opposed to each other with the oriented films positioned on the inner side and the liquid crystal layer 9 is sealed therein, by which the liquid crystal display panel is formed. The desired tilt angle is, therefore, obtd. by selecting the rubbing angle and the good image plane with which the responsiveness and the contrast are compatible is obtd.
