Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the oxidation resistance of a metallic carrier by forming a honeycomb shaped metallic carrier wherein a brazing material is coated at a place receiving a laser beam irradiation, by irradiation with the laser beam so as to braze the metallic carrier and by filling up pierced holes formed at the brazing by use of welding etc. CONSTITUTION:A production of a metallic carrier for cleaning exhaust gas is divided into the following three processes, i.e., (a) a process of forming a metallic support, (b) a process of brazing and (c) a process of filling up pierced holes. First in process (a), a corrugated plate 11, 20 and a flat plate 10 made of heat-resistant steel, wherein a brazing material 1 is applied or plated at least on a part of place which receives a laser beam irradiation, are prepared. Then, they are put one over the other, coiled together and inserted into an outer casing 5 to form a honey comb 25 shaped metallic carrier 30. Next in process (b), a laser beam is directed at specified points 8, 9, pierced holes 3, 4 are formed accompanied by melting of the brazing material around these holes and brazing together the metallic carrier 30. Further in process (c), the pierced holes 3, 4 on the outer casing formed in process (b) are filled up by use of welding etc.
