Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent turbulence in focus error signals, by providing a light shielding body between a servo photodetector and a semiconductor laser element so that laser light from the semiconductor laser element is not directly incident on the servo photodetector. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor device comprises, for example, a semiconductor substrate 1, a semiconductor laser element 2 bonded on the semiconductor substrate 1, a monitoring photodetector 3 formed on the substrate 1, a servo photodetector 4 formed on the substrate 1 and a light shielding plate 30 provided on the substrate 1 region located between the monitoring and servo photodetectors 3 and 4. Thus, the light shielding body is provided on the semiconductor substrate between the semiconductor laser element and the photodetector receiving light from the outside. In this manner, it is possible to obtain a semiconductor device causing no turbulence in focus error signals when an optical pickup is produced therefrom.
