Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the temperature distribution in the axial direction of a hollow roll uniform by arranging a plurality of solenoid coils in the axial direction of and between the hollow roll and a rotary shaft in a tilted attitude. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of solenoid coils 8 are arranged in a tilted attitude between a hollow roll 5 and a rotary shaft 1 with an iron core 9 inserted between the rotary shaft 1 and the solenoid coil 8. With this constitution, a closed magnetic circuit is formed with the iron core 9, a supporting plate 6 and the roll 5 when each coil 8 is excited. Magnetic flux induced with each coil 8 flows through the entire roll 5. The part of the roll 5 near the border of the solenoid coils 8 is displaced in the axial direction of the roll. Further, that part exists on only a circumferential part of the roll. As a result, temperature drop of the part near the border is minimized and the temperature distribution in the axial direction of the roll 5 is made uniform.
