Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a light guide suitable for mass production by laminating an optical material having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of an optical element substrate to the surface of said substrate and pressing a die having desired pattern shapes onto the surface, thereby transferring the shapes to the laminated optical material. CONSTITUTION:The ruggedness having the shapes corresponding to various passive devices is provided on the pattern shapes of the die. The die 8 having such molding surface is pressed to the laminated optical material 1, by which the rugged shapes are transferred thereto. The material having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of the optical element substrate 2 in contact with the laminated optical material is used for said material. The upper part of the material comes into contact with the air layer. The material, therefore, acts as a guide layer 1 and the light advancing in the guide layer 1 can be controlled according to the passive devices. The dies for molding which meet the desired passive devices are previously fashioned, then a large quantities of the light guides can be produced simply by repeating the molding operation to transfer the shapes of the dies.
