Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The dithioacetal derivative of formula I. USE:Useful for the production of pyrenophyrin which is a 16-membered ring macrolide antibiotic substance. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I is produced by reacting an aldehyde derivative of formula II with 1,3-propanedithiol in a solvent such as dichloromethane at -20-+70 deg.C, preferably 0-40 deg.C for 30min-10hr and then reacting the reaction product with trifluoroboron etherate. The starting aldehyde derivative of formula II can be easily produced by reacting a compound of formula III with lithium aluminum hydride and oxidizing the resultant compound of formula IV with chlorochromic acid pyridinium.
