The pigment has a large surface activity, which is in sharp contrast to that of the dye, and since the pigment is in the form of particles, it significantly accelerates the wear of the ball of a ballpoint pen, and also causes a lack of fluidity in the ink due to the agglomeration of particles.

Lines may skip when writing, the writing will not feel smooth, and ink discharge will be extremely reduced. Also, after long-term use, the balls may become missing due to wear on the ball catch, resulting in ink being lost. It had the disadvantage that it became impossible to write on before it was consumed.

The pigment was considered to have poor dispersion stability, but by using spherical resin particles in the present invention, the dispersion stability in the ink is significantly improved, resulting in excellent writability and excellent black color. A pigment ink composition for ballpoint pens could be obtained.

Any of these can be used, and preferred condensation type dispersants include, for example, the polyester type dispersants described in JP-A-60-26070, and addition polymer type dispersants include α , addition polymers having β-ethylenically unsaturated groups. Particularly preferred are addition polymer-based dispersants, which are derived from a combination of 100% polymers forming the lipophilic portion and 100% polymers forming the hydrophilic portion.

It can be obtained by suitably mixing seven polymers and by any conventionally known mixed polymerization method, such as solution polymerization method, suspension polymerization method, emulsion polymerization method, etc. Known additives such as polymerization regulators may also be used if necessary. The liquid medium used in this case may be water, an organic solvent, or a mixture thereof that can be used as an ink liquid medium, and the polymerization liquid obtained as is may be used as an ink liquid medium. It is also possible to use the polymer by separating it from the solution and then redissolving it.

Those having a molecular weight in the range of 0 to io0.000 are important for properties such as the polymer content in the solution, the viscosity of the solution and the viscosity of the pigment ink composition for ballpoint pens using the same, and the quality such as the fastness of recorded materials. The proportion is 300 parts by weight, preferably about 5 to 100 parts by weight. Since inorganic pigments have a high density and relatively large particles, their surface area is relatively small, and therefore a relatively small amount of dispersant is required. Organic pigments have a relatively low density and are often used in fine particles, so they are used in relatively large amounts.

No skipping of drawn lines was observed, and even in continuous writing, no phenomena of blurring or thinning of drawn lines due to a decrease in the amount of ink discharged were observed, and the stability over time was good. Furthermore, even after long-term use, there is no wear on the ball or its catch, and it can be used stably for a long time.
