Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the alignment of optical axes by stacking three regularly octagonal crystal pieces so that their optical axes shift by 45 deg. each. CONSTITUTION:A crystal plate 2 obtained by cutting a crystal base material is cut into many regularly octagonal crystal pieces 15 successively so that mutually adjacent sides of crystal piece 15 are superposed one over the other. All of the cut crystal pieces 15 have their optical axes 3 in the same direction. Then, three optional crystal pieces 15 are selected among those crystal pieces 15 and arranged shifting by 45 deg. each, and those three crystal piece 15 are superposed to form an optical fiber 16. Thus, the time for optical axis alignment is shortened.

To explain how to make a conventionally known optical filter, first, as shown in FIG. 1, a large number of crystal plates 2 are cut out from a relatively large crystal base material 1. The lower thickness of the crystal base material 1 is approximately 2Q mm, and the width W is 160 to 180 mm. Each crystal plate 2 is cut out at an angle X of 45° with respect to the optical axis 3.

According to this invention, since the three crystal pieces 15 constituting the optical filter 16 have a regular octagonal shape, the optical axes 3 of the three crystal pieces 15 are arranged so as to be shifted by 45 degrees. It is extremely easy to do this, and the manufacturing time, especially the time for aligning the optical axis, can be significantly shortened. Furthermore, the regular octagonal crystal piece 15 is the sixth
As illustrated in the figure, since a large number of crystal pieces can be made in succession so that adjacent sides overlap each other, it is easy to avoid waste of materials.
