Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain easily white balance adjustment by integrating a signal of an image pickup element or an image pickup tube for one feed period to introduce a characteristic of the entire object and the characteristic of light source thereby applying gain adjustment of R, G, B and utilizing the said signal only. CONSTITUTION:In the gain adjustment of R, G, B, the peak value of R, G, B during one feed period is detected by peak detection circuits 10, 11, 12 and amplifier circuits 7, 8, 9 are controlled by a gain control circuit 13 to give the same peak value. When the light source touching a white object is white, the white balance is attained. When no white color is included in the object or the light source itself is other than white, the integration circuits 4, 5, 6 apply integration for one feed period of R, G, B and when the difference of the integration value is a prescribed level or over, the characteristic of the entire object and the characteristic of the light source are estimated and a correction signal is applied to the R, G, B gain adjustment signal only at peak detection.

However, in the conventional example above, if there is no external sensor, a white subject and a diffuser are required, and when shooting telephoto images, prepare a white subject under the light source that is shining on the target subject. It is difficult to do so. Furthermore, even when the color temperature of the light source is detected using an external sensor, white balance cannot be achieved if the color temperature of the detected light source differs from that of the light source of the light hitting the subject when the image is taken using a telephoto lens.

Structure of the Invention In order to achieve the above object, the present invention integrates signals from an image sensor or an image pickup tube for one field period to determine the characteristics of the entire object and the characteristics of the light source, and adjusts the gain of the RG-13. This has the effect of simplifying white balance adjustment.

DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS The configuration of an embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. 1 is an image sensor or an image pickup tube, 2 is a subject, and 3 is a light source. 4, 5.6 is the output signal R
-()-B, and is an integrating circuit that performs integration over an l-field period. 7, 8.9 are respectively R-G-B signal amplification circuits, 10.11.12 are R-G-B signal amplifiers during the l field period.
A peak detection circuit 13 detects the peak value of the B signal, and a gain control circuit 13 controls the gain of the amplifier circuit 7°8.9. Next, the operation of the above embodiment will be explained. In order to maintain white balance, R, -G-B gain adjustment is performed by detecting R-G-B peak values during one field period using peak detection circuits 10 and 11.12, and these peak values become the same. The gain control circuit 13 controls the amplifier circuits 7, 8.9 in this manner.

Now, if there is a white object in the subject and the light source hitting the subject is white, the white balance can be achieved using this method, as in the conventional method. Next, when the subject does not contain white, or when the light source itself is a color other than white, the integrating circuits 4, 5.
6, integrate over the R, -G-B] field period,
If the difference in R-G-B integral values is above a certain level, the characteristics of the entire subject and the characteristics of the light source are estimated, and a correction signal is added to the Ft and -G-B gain adjustment signals for peak detection only. It is. Compared to white balance adjustment that only detects the peak value, this correction signal eliminates the need to artificially image a white subject or insert a diffuser, and even when the light source itself is a color other than white. It has the advantage of being able to maintain white balance, and since it does not use a sensor to detect the color temperature of the light source, the light incident on the sensor and the light hitting the subject, which occur when photographing a subject with a telephoto lens, etc. If they are different, there is an advantage that the problem of not being able to maintain white balance occurs.

Effects of the Invention The present invention has the above-described configuration, and provides the following effects. Since the white balance of a color television camera is performed using only the signals from the image pickup device or the image pickup tube, the white balance can be automatically achieved, which is particularly effective in the case of a color surveillance camera.
