Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a normal white balance correction by detecting the presence of a dominant color in an object to be image-pickup which is used in adjusting white balance, deciding the saturation of the detected color, and providing negative feedback operation for white balance correction in the axis-direction intersecting orthogonally with the color temperature axis of the dominant color. CONSTITUTION:When R is dominant in a screen, a comparator/amplifier 24 outputs a VH, but outputs a VL when Ye is dominant. In case of the VH, a correction signal forming part 25 outputs correction signals to amplification parts 16, 17 so that an output signal from an adding part 18 forms a straight line intersecting orthogonally with the straight line connecting the R and the origin as a correction axis. In case of the VL, the part 25 outputs correction signals to the parts 16, 17 so that an output signal from the part 18 forms the straight line connecting the point Ye and the origin as a correction axis. As a result, even when a dominant color exists, an excellent white balance correction can be obtained.
