Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve color transfer recording with high resolution, by arranging ink layers so that the viscosity of each color ink at the time of transfer is decreased in the order of transfer, in an ink sheet wherein two or more color ink layers are arranged. CONSTITUTION:The ink sheet 13 coated with heat-fusible inks of yellow Y, magenta M and cyan C is fed in the direction of an arrow D, and is sequentially laminated with a recording paper 12 to conduct transfer recording. The inks are so selected that the viscosity of each of the inks at the time of transfer is decreased in the order of yellow, magenta and cyan. Therefore, for instance, when a magenta ink 15 is transferred onto the recording paper 12 after a yellow ink 16 is transferred onto the paper 12, the viscosity of the ink 15 subsequently transferred is lower than that of the ink 16 precedingly transferred, so that the ink 15 subsequently used for recording penetrates into a gap 17 formed by the ink 16 precedingly used, and an image with high resolution can be obtained.

The principle of thermal transfer recording is simple. As shown in FIG. 1, the ink notebook 7 for thermal transfer recording and the recording paper 2 are brought into close contact with each other and pressed against the thermal head 1, and the heat generated by the thermal head 10 releases the ink 7- for transfer recording. heat the hot-melt ink 6.
is melted and transferred onto recording paper 2. In this way, the colors yellow, magenta, and cyan are layered and transferred in this order.

Therefore, since the recording ink sheet 7 only advances in one direction of the arrow A, the recording paper 2 must be returned to its original position each time the color changes. The heat-melting inks 4, 5, and 6 melt at the melting point temperature by heating, penetrate and adhere to the recording paper 2,
Transfer recording is possible by cooling and solidifying.

In such thermal transfer recording, the state in which the heat-melting ink 8 is recorded on the recording paper 2 is schematically shown in a sectional view as shown in FIG. 2. The numbers in FIG. 2 correspond to those in FIG. 1, and the recorded heat-melting ink 8 is in a raised state from the surface of the recording paper 2. In this state, if the heat-melt ink 4 and 6 of another color are superimposed and transfer-recorded, the area around the previously recorded heat-melt ink 8 will be There was a problem in that the heat-melting inks 4 and 5 were difficult to adhere to these parts.

Microscopically, portions B and C tend to be recorded as white spots. The reason for this is that the adhesion between the thermal transfer recording ink sheet 7 and the recording paper 2 deteriorates due to the recesses formed by the swelling of the previously recorded heat-melting ink 8. However, in recent years, there has been an increasing demand for higher resolution image quality in thermal transfer recording type color printers. On the other hand, although the above-mentioned problem is a major drawback, no consideration has been given to the conventional ink for thermal transfer recording.

Structure of the Invention The present invention is an ink cartridge for thermal transfer recording, which includes heat-melting inks that are applied to a plurality of colors in such a manner that the viscosity at the heating temperature is changed in the order in which the inks are transferred and recorded, and the inks are arranged in descending order of their viscosity. By lowering the viscosity of the heat-melt ink that is transferred and recorded later, it is easier to penetrate into areas where the adhesion is poor due to the bulges of the heat-melt ink that was previously recorded, and it is also possible to improve the mutual bonding. It is also possible to prevent mixing due to melting and obtain higher resolution image quality.

DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS FIG. 3 is a viscosity history-temperature characteristic diagram of a heat-melting ink of an ink sheet for thermal transfer recording in an embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, the vertical axis represents viscosity, the horizontal axis represents temperature, Y represents yellow, M represents magenta, and C represents cyan. In this embodiment, transfer recording is performed in the order of yellow, magenta, and cyan, and the heat-melting ink at this time is yellow, magenta, and cyan in that order, and the color recorded first has a characteristic of having a higher melting point. θ in FIG. 3 is the temperature heated by the thermal head, and at this temperature θ, the viscosity of the colors recorded later becomes lower in the order of yellow, magenta, and 7 am.

The operation of the thermal transfer recording ink cartridge of this embodiment constructed as described above will be explained below. 6th
The figure is a sectional view showing a state in which transfer recording is performed using the ink cartridge for thermal transfer recording of this embodiment. In the figure, 11 is a thermal head and 12 ID recording paper. 13 is an ink 7 for thermal transfer recording;
-) 14 and hot-melt ink 15. Reference numeral 16 indicates the yellow heat-melting ink that has been transferred and recorded onto the recording paper 12, and 17 indicates a gap caused by the thickness of the heat-melting ink 16. The hot-melt ink 15 is magenta or cyan, and 18 is a suppression roller. In this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 3, the viscosity-temperature characteristics of the heat-melting ink of each color are set so that the viscosity of the color to be recorded later is lower during transfer. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 5, the heat-fusible ink 15 to be recorded later melts and easily flows into the gap 13 created by the hot-fusible ink 16 recorded previously. Furthermore, since the viscosity of the hot-melt ink 16 recorded first is high, it is less susceptible to the influence of the hot-melt ink 15 recorded later and flowing in. As shown in FIG. 3, the viscosity-temperature characteristics of the hot-melt ink can be changed by changing the blending ratio of the components of the hot-melt ink, such as wax, oil, or resin.

As described above, according to this embodiment, by setting the melting point temperature of the heat-melting ink of the color to be recorded later low, the viscosity at the time of transfer is lowered, and the bulge of the heat-melting ink recorded previously is lowered. By making it easier to penetrate into areas with poor adhesion caused by staining, it is possible to obtain color images of higher resolution using a thermal transfer recording method.

Effects of the Invention As described above, the ink sheet for thermal transfer recording of the present invention has the following advantages:
