Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to simultaneously form by grinding, both the cutting edge and chisel edge of a drill, by arranging two grindstones in a twist drill grinding machine in such a manner that the axes of the shafts of the grindstones are arranged in the same plane with a slight gap being defined therebetween. CONSTITUTION:Two cylinders 3 of grindstone shafts are vertically arranged and secured in parallel with each other, being spaced by a predetermined distance therebetween, in the top board 2 of a casing 1, and are driven by a flat belt 9 through pulleys 4 attached to the lower ends of the cylinders 3, respectively. A jig 11 formed with a hole 11a is disposed between both grindstones 5, 5. The drill to be ground, which extends through the hole 11a, is turned by the chisel angle within a range of 90 deg. to 150 deg. in which the drill is rotated less than one- half of rotation, from the point where the tip part of the drill is contacted to grinding surface 5a, 5b. With this arrangement, a main frank is ground after the main cutting edge of the drill is ground, and thinning is carried out in both end surfaces to be ground, simultaneously.

A normal drill grinder uses a single grindstone to grind the cutting edge at the tip of the drill, and gives an oscillating motion to either the drill or the grindstone to form the main flank that follows the main cutting edge. In order to perform this movement automatically, a complicated mechanism is required, which increases the number of parts and increases the cost. Therefore, the present invention was created in view of the above, and a variety of types were developed to simplify the structure. ★As a result of the study, we were able to achieve the objective of creating a grinding machine that can complete the required grinding by simply rotating the drill to be ground by 100° while feeding it in the axial direction.

The gist of the present invention is to use two grinding wheels of the same shape that rotate in the same direction, the edges of their grinding surfaces are symmetrical with a very slight distance between them, and the angle formed by the grinding surfaces is equal to the tip angle of the drill to be ground. The axes of the two grinding wheels are arranged in parallel or inclined in the same plane so that be.

The whetstone shaft cylinder 3 has a pulley 4 at its lower end, and a whetstone shaft 6 on which a whetstone 5 is fixed at its upper end, which protrudes from the top plate 2, is rotatably supported. The two grinding wheels are Borazon or diamond grinding wheels that can omit dressing, and are of the same flat plate shape, and the grinding surfaces are formed by conical surfaces 5a of the same truncated cone with a part of the outer periphery diagonally bent, and both grinding wheels are symmetrical. The intersection angle of the grinding surface on the plane containing the grinding wheel axis of the conical surface 5& has a conical angle equal to the tip angle of the drill to be ground. Also, the diameter of the grinding wheel is much smaller than the distance between the grinding wheel axes, and the distance between both ends of the grinding wheel is 0.1~

A motor 7 is fixed to the casing 1 at the apex of an isosceles triangle having a rotation axis parallel to the grindstone shafts 6.6 and whose base is between the two grindstone shafts. A pulley 8 is fixed to the lower end of the rotating shaft of the motor 7, and a flat belt 9 is hung between the pulley 8 and the pulley 4, and the grindstone shaft 6.6 is driven in the same direction at a required number of rotations.

A bracket 10 is fixed to the top plate 2 across the grindstone 5.5, and a hole 11 through which the drill to be ground is inserted is formed on a plane including the grindstone axis and on the bisector between the grindstone axes, that is, on the axis of symmetry. A replaceable jig 11 is provided. Also, if necessary, means for rotating the chisel angle may be added as a chuck in place of the jig.

To perform grinding with the drill grinder of the present invention configured as described above, the hole 11& of the jig 11 must be replaced with one that matches the diameter of the drill, the motor 7 must be driven to rotate the grinding wheels 5, and the drill must be fixed. The drill is inserted into the hole 11& of the tool 11, and from the time when the tip of the feed contacts the grinding surfaces 5a and 5m in the axial direction, the drill is rotated by half a turn or less within the range of 90° to 150°.

Since there is a gap of 0.2 between the edges of the grinding surfaces of the two grindstones, a chisel edge at the tip of the drill is formed. If this gap becomes zero, the chisel edge will disappear, so this gap plays an important role in forming the chisel edge.

Next, a second embodiment is shown in Section 1II. In this embodiment, the grinding surface of the flat whetstone is not an 8-pointed surface, but a cylindrical surface on the outer periphery, and the axes of the whetstone are crossed on the opposite side from the drill at an angle equal to the drill tip angle in the same plane. As described in detail above, the present invention is characterized in that the edges of the grinding surfaces of two equally-shaped grindstones are arranged symmetrically with a gap between them, and the intersection angle of the grinding surfaces on a plane containing the grindstone axis is the same as that of the drill to be ground. The axis of the grinding wheel is set on the same plane so that it is equal to the tip angle of the grinding wheel, and a guide means is provided to send the drill to be ground on the axis of symmetry of the grinding wheel. Therefore, there is no need for a multi-axis movement mechanism for the grinding wheel or drill, and the grinding process can be easily performed. The structure of the disk is extremely simple, which can significantly reduce costs, and by simply rotating the drill while feeding, it is easy to grind the main cutting edge and then thin the main flank. Moreover, since the two grindstones can be easily made symmetrically, there is less unevenness in the lip height due to the chisel edge, and the grinding accuracy of the drill is high, resulting in good sharpness and hole accuracy, and depending on the workpiece, there is no need for finishing with a hammer. It can be done. In addition, since a gap is provided at the edge of the grinding surface, accurate chisel edges and thinning can be easily formed, and the cutting resistance is low and the cutting force can be cut with a small thrust force.
