Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the battery performance and increase the presevation performance of an alkaline battery by using electrolytic manganese dioxide, the manganese sulfate concentration of which is below a given value, as a positive active material for the battery. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 1 prepared by compressing and molding a mixture agent principally consisting of electrolytic manganese dioxide, a translucent cellophane film 4, a micro-porous polystyrene film 5, a liquid holding material 6 and a gel negative electrode 7 are placed in a case 2. After that, a sealing plate 9 is placed over the electrode 7, with a sealing gasket 8 interposed between the case 2 and the plate 9, to seal the battery, thereby constituting a button-type alkaline battery. The former electrolytic manganese dioxide used for the positive electrode 1 contains below 2 wt% of manganese sulfate.
