Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the thermal crown of a roll, to improve the product quality, and to prevent the roll surface from roughing, by specifying the spraying pressure of a nozzle, the density per unit area of cooling surface of water rate sprayed from the nozzle, the flow rate of cooling water, and the cooling zone. CONSTITUTION:Each nozzle is prepared so as to spray the water in a wide angle, and the cooling water is sprayed from all nozzles so as to directly strike the work roll surface; the area of this direct cooling zone is made to >=20% of cooling zone in the surface of work roll drum; the spraying pressure P2 of each nozzle is set to 1-7kg/cm<2>. The density W2 per unit cooling area of water rate sprayed from each nozzle is determined so as to satisfy W2<=(P1/P2)<0.2-0.8>X5X10<4>(l/m<2>. min), in which P1 is the spraying pressure usually employed for the roll cooling water, that is P1=8-30kg/cm<2>. The cooling water rate per unit rolling output is adjusted to <=2.5m<3>/ton.stand. Hereby, the roll surface is prevented from roughing, and its service life is extended.
