Abstract

PURPOSE: To aim at reducting the cost of a lockup clutch for a torque convertor, by making a piston of a flexible plate supported to a front cover and by interposing, between the piston and the flexible cover, a clutch plate coupled to a turbine so as to simplify the construction of the lockup clutch.
CONSTITUTION: A piton 40 consisting of a flexible plate is secured to a front cover 1b and is attached at its outer periphery with a pressure plate 41 opposite to a clutch surface 1d formed on the front cover 1b. Further, a shell 2a of a turbine 2 is provided with a ring-shape supporting plate 42 to which a clutch plate 44 carrying, at both sides, linings 43 is supported movably in the axial direction thereof. Then, the clutch plate 44 is interposed between the pressure plate 41 of the piston 40 and the clutch surface 1d of the front cover 1b.
