Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare optical fibers collected in high density efficiently, by dropping plural preform rods of the quartz glass type, heating it to a given temperature, drawing them simultaneously at a proper starting point of drawing. CONSTITUTION:A given number of the preform rods 2 of the quartz glass type are bundled, the both ends of the bundle 1 are heated, melted and joined by oxyhydrogen flame, so that the rods 2 are not scattered. One end of the bundle 1 is supported by a supporting means, the other end is fitted with the dummey 5 as a weight, and the bundle 1 is dropped. Its free end is introduced into the heating furnace 3, heated at a given temperature, the starting point of drawing is set at a higher position than the joined part of the rods 2, and drawing is started, to give simultaneously optical fibers wherein the optical fiber stocks 4 not melted and jointed are collected in high density.
