Abstract
PURPOSE:To secure the thermal resistance of a light guide end part by melt- sticking ends of many optical fibers, from which each cladding material is removed, and a glass tube, which has lower refractivity than cores have, in one body. CONSTITUTION:Many optical fibers 1 and 1,... are bundled to form a bundle end part 8, which is inserted into a glass tube 4. Then, the said bundle end part 8 and some of the optical fibers 1 and 1,... are set on a glass lathe to be rotated, and the small-diameter part 5 of the glass tube 4 and a core bundle part 8a in it are heated with an oxyhydrogen flame burner, etc. Consequently, the small- diameter part 5 of the glass tube 4 contracts in its diameter direction, and respective cores 3 and 3,... at the core bundle part 8a are melt-stuck in one body. Thus, the optical fiber ends and glass tube are melt-stuck together, so the light guide end part is formed without using an adhesive which is thermally weak, thereby securing sufficient thermally resistance.
