Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the weld strength of the connected part of a mutually welded and connected preform rods or the welded part of a preform rod and a dummy quartz rod, and to prevent the breakage of the optical fiber during spinning, by preliminarily heating and drawing the preform rods, and then continuously spinning to obtain an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The end faces of quartz preform rods 1, 2 are polished, butted coaxially, and welded together. The connected preform rods are covered with a quartz pipe 3 to obtain a solid primary preform. The primary preform is heated in a carbon furnace and drawn to make the final preform, which is spun to an optical fiber.
