PURPOSE:To simplify the failure detection even for an operational amplifier in any application, by detecting a voltage between input terminals exceeding a prescribed value, as a failure. CONSTITUTION:A failure detection circuit 5 consists of the 1st voltage comparator 6 outputting a pulse signal of logical 1 when a minus input terminal voltage of an operational amplifier 2 exceeds a value added by several tens of millivolts to a plus input terminal voltage, the 2nd voltage comparator 7 outputting a pulse signal in logical 1 when the minus terminal voltage of the operational amplifier 2 is lower than the plus terminal voltage subtracted by several tens of millivolts, and logical sum circuit 8 obtaining the logical sum of both the comparators 6 and 7. Further, the amplifier 2 is in normal operation, the voltage between the input terminals is approximately zero, and on the other hand, if in failure, the zero voltage cannot be kept. If the voltage difference between the input terminals of the amplifier 2 exceeds + or - several tens of millivolts, it is detected as a failure.
