Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the tracking control and focusing control performance, by locating a wavelength plate before and after a polarized light beam splitter on an axial line perpendicular to the recording plane of a recording carrier and locating a semiconductor laser and a photodetector oppositely at both the sides of the axial line. CONSTITUTION:An outgoing light of linear polarized light from a semiconductor laser 2 is collimated at an objective lens 3, then converted into a circular polarized light at a 1/4 wavelentgh plate 5 via a beam splitter 6 and condensed on a recording plane 9a of a disc 9 at a lens 4. The light modulated with the information on the plane 9a is converted into a linear polarized light toward the direction perpendicular at the incident time and transmits through the splitter 6. After the transmitted light passes through a 1/4 wave-length plate 11, it is reflected by a mirror 12 and passes through the plate 11 again and becomes a linear polarized light in which the polarized plane turns by 90 deg.. Thus, the incident light to the splitter 6 is reflected toward a detection lens 7 and detected at a photodetector 8.
