Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an ingot of good quality by installing to electromagnetic stirrers oppositely near the meniscus on one of the longer sides of a mold, and giving the flow toward the center of a width direction to molten steel. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic stirrers 3, 3' are installed below the two meniscuses oppositely to one of the longer sides of a mold 1. The stirrers 3, 3' are so connected that the molten steel stirring directions thereof are opposite on the right and left, and give the flow toward the center of the width direction to the molten steel in the mold 1. Hence, the molten steel flow (a) from an immersion nozzle 2 is cushioned by the molten steel flow (b) toward the center of the width direction, and consequently the percoration depth (d') of the molten steel flow (a) from the immersion nozzle 2 into the molten steel in the mold is decreased considerably and the ingot of good quality is produced.
