Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the disturbance of the molen metal surface of the freezing interface of predetermined depth and make possible continuous casting of weak deoxidized steel by combining the shapes of both short sides of a mold and the positions of the electromagnetic force generators provided on both long sides into an optimum manner. CONSTITUTION:At the time of casting molten steel of 50-200ppm in free oxygen concentration in molten steel in a continuous casting method of steel slab using mold powder and immersion nozzle, the short sides of a mold 7 are formed into a concave face 10 and electromagnetic flow is given to the molten steel by energizing the electromagnetic force generators 8, 8' installed along both long sides in the position upper than the spouting hole of the immersion nozzle 11 in the mold 7. Then, a velocity of flow of 0.1-1.0m/sec is given overall to the molten steel at the freezing interface of the predetermined depth from the molten steel surface 1 in the mold 7 by the mutually opposite thrusts of the electromagnetic force generators 8, 8'. The adverse influence by the jet flow 17 of the nozzle 11 of molten metal surface powder 14 is prevented by this flow.
