Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove a used wire easily by a method wherein a waste wire winding reel drum of a wire cut electric discharge machine is divided into a plurality of components and the diameter of the drum is made variable. CONSTITUTION:A wire electrode used for wire cut electric discharge machining is wound around a winding reel 18. The drum 42 of the winding reel 18 is divided into a plurality of drum components 50 and each of the components 50 is pulled by a pull spring 56 in such a direction that the diameter may take the minimum. When the wire winding reel 18 is fixed to a winding motor 40, the diameter of the drum component 50 is expanded by the taper spindle 62 of the winding motor 40 against the pull spring 56 so that the drum takes the maximum diameter. Under this state, the waste wire is wound. When the widning reel 18 is removed after the winding operation is completed each component 50 of the drum 42 is pulled by the spring 56 to diminish the diameter. Thus, the used wire can be removed easily from the reel 18.
