Abstract

PURPOSE: To positively position a cariage at the printing of the end and start of each line, in a printer that uses a heat-meltable ink ribbon, by shuttling the carriage to drive back and forth a moving member on the carriage.
CONSTITUTION: A support member 9 of a printing head 8, when one end of an actuating arm 17 attached to a base 9a is supported by a flange 19b of a control rod 19, undergoes a force in a direction shown by an arrow F1 by a spring 18 to cause the printing head 8 to be pressed on a platen 1, and with this state it is moved along the platen to perform printing. When a sleeve 10 that is secured to the support member 9 has reached the right end of a guide rod 11, the lower end of the actuating arm 17 engages with a slanted surface 20b of a cam 20b on the control rod 19, and is moved thereby against the spring 18 toward a flange 19a and supported thereby. Thus, the support member 9 is moved pivotally with respect to the base 9a thereby the head 8 is moved away from the platen 1. With this state the head 8 is returned to the original position.
