Abstract

PURPOSE: To operate effectively a supercharger over the whole range of engine run by supplying secondary air to the upstream side of the supercharger in synchronization with exhaust valve timing in the middle and low speed run of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: Pressurized air from an air pump 11 is supplied into an exhaust pipe 3 upstream of an exhaust turbine 9 of a supercharger through a control valve 12 and a timing valve 14. The control valve 12 is opened in the medium and low speed run of an engine and the timing valve 14 is opened in synchronization with the rotation of the engine when the exhaust valve is opened. Thus, since secondary air is supplied in synchronization with the exhaust valve timing in the medium and low speed run of the engine when the operative capacity of the supercharger is reduced, exhaust pulsation in the exhaust pipe 3 is increased and the capacity of the supercharger is increased so that the supercharger can be operated efficiently over the whole range of the engine run.
