Abstract

PURPOSE: To supply a necessary and sufficient secondary air irrespective of a low load or high load of the engine by a method wherein there are provided a turbine upstream of the supercharger and the first, second air supply passages which communicate an exhaust passage and a suction passage at a downstream of a blower.
CONSTITUTION: Since an exhaust pressure is small and in addition, a pulsation of an exhaust gas is maintained entirely in the exhaust passage 2 at the upstream of the turbine 4 when the engine E is in the operation with a low-load, a check valve 8 is opened by a negative pressure of the exhaust gas pulsation to supply the air as the secondary air from the first secondary air supply passage 7 to the exhaust passage 2, and the secondary air supplied is consumbed for purifying the exhaust gas in an exhaust gas purifying device 6. As a result that the blower 5 is driven by a high power and the amount of the supercharged air is increased when the engine E is applied with the high load, the 2nd secondary air supply passage 10 in place of the 1st secondary air supply passage 7 permits a part of the supercharged air as the secondary air to be supplied to the exhaust passage 2.
